Flash Flooding in Cairns

Flash flooding brought on from severe weather in the North Queensland region has soaked the town of Cairns in the early hours of Sunday February 8, 2009. The Bureau of Meteorology has provided the following synopsis:

King tides and flood waters will help produce abnormally high tides. Expect abnormally high tides above the highest astronomical tide of the year to persist during Sunday.

Landslides, low lying area flooding and high water levels in local creeks and rivers are expected for the duration of Sunday

These severe conditions come just a week after ex-tropical cyclone Ellie swept through North Queensland causing severe flooding in Ingham and surrounding areas. [gallery link=”file” orderby=”ID”]
